Public Benefit Flying Day 2023

Let's tell the world why we fly.

Public Benefit Flying Day:

What's Happening?

ACA and EAA are raising visibility for public benefit flying. Join us!

The many facets of aviation used for the public benefit will be highlighted as part of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023, which takes place July 24-30 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

While elements of Public Benefit Flying will be shown throughout AirVenture week, the primary focus will be on Saturday, July 29.

The day recognizes those who volunteer to fly as a way to give back to the community.

Each year thousands of volunteer pilots provide free flights for health, compassion, and community service. The pilots donate their time, skills, and all flight expenses for a variety of humanitarian purposes. ACA members such as the Angel Flight organizations, Pilots N Paws, Operation Airdrop, SouthWings and STEM Flights, provide access to distant medical care, relocate endangered animals, assist with disaster relief efforts, provide conservation support, and much more.

The Air Care Alliance (ACA) is working with EAA to raise visibility for public benefit flying and to promote pilot volunteerism by dedicating this special day at AirVenture.

EAA’s Public Benefit Flying Day honors those who participate in any type of public benefit flying.

As part of Public Benefit Flying day at AirVenture, the Air Care Alliance, in association with the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) will present the 2022 Public Benefit Flying Awards prior to the afternoon’s airshow on Saturday, July 29th.

These awards celebrate the service and accomplishments of the many volunteers in aviation who “fly to help others,” performing missions of community and individual service.

On Saturday, July 29, a variety of aircraft used in Public Benefit Flying will be on display on the showcase Boeing Plaza, with additional aircraft participating in that day’s afternoon air show.

Airplanes on Boeing Plaza will include those representing Air Care Alliance groups, as well Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, Wisconsin Air National Guard, JAARS, ThedaCare, Buffalo Airways, and FedEx. All these display aircraft have been used in humanitarian or public benefit missions.

In addition, the JAARS Pilatus aircraft will be used each day to deliver the skydivers and American flag that open AirVenture’s afternoon air show.

Calling all pilots who fly to helps others!

Whether you fly humanitarian missions, as a first responder, for the military, give Young Eagle rides, or anything else, we invite you to join us for a group photo on Boeing Plaza Saturday July 29th.

We will be gathering at the Coast Guard helicopter parked on Boeing Plaza at 11:00 a.m. for a group photo of pilots that contribute to Public Benefit Flying. You are encouraged to wear a shirt or uniform that represents the organization you are associated with to show the many different groups who contribute to this important industry segment.
