Volunteer Pilot Organizations are not air ambulances and do not provide medical care during a flight. If a patient is non-ambulatory and in need of in-flight medical care, you will need to contact an air ambulance transportation company. Below are some resources for those in need of air ambulance transportation who cannot afford it.
Charity Air Ambulance: https://charityairambulance.com/
Charity Air Ambulance is a privately funded organization that was created to assist patient advocates in their critical times of need and provide a new source of funding for patients who meet certain criteria. With the aid of private partners and affiliates, Charity Air Ambulance helps coordinate and secure patients medically warranted, long-distance air ambulance transfers. All requests are considered. 1-844-307-3731
Flying Angels: https://www.flyingangels.com/about/
This is a unique air ambulance alternative which provides bedside to bedside non-emergency medical transport services with patients accompanied by an experienced RN flight nurse on commercial airlines. Flying Angels tailors the transport to the patient and also works with insurance companies. While not free, it is generally much less expensive than traditional air ambulance and could be a good alternative in some situations. Click here to read some case examples.
