Air Care Alliance Seeks Leaders for Board of Directors

The Air Care Alliance (ACA), a 510(c)(3) non-profit that promotes, supports, and represents public benefit flying, is seeking volunteer leaders to join its dynamic board of directors. The ACA Board of Directors comprises leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. Serving on the ACA Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about using aviation as a means to help others.

Board members are actively involved in organizational governance, and are expected to attend quarterly board meetings, participate in at least one board committee, and make a meaningful personal financial contribution annually.

The board needs a variety of skills, with a strong emphasis on board candidates with legal, accounting, advocacy, and development expertise, as well as those connected to foundations and aviation organizations.

Volunteer Board Member – Job Description

Board members are expected to:

  • Have the financial acumen to read and understand ACA’s financial statements and to otherwise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Attend four board meetings per year; read board materials in advance of board meetings; and come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.
  • Serve on one or more committees of the board and actively participate in committee work.
  • Play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for ACA to achieve its mission. Board members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to help the development committee and staff identify and solicit potential funders, as well as directly invest in ACA’s work by making a personal contribution each year.
  • Responsibly represent ACA to their respective communities and advocate for ACA’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate.
  • Board terms last for three years and board members can serve for up to two consecutive terms.

Legal Professional

ACA seeks a legal professional with expertise in aviation law and policy as well as experience with the legislative process. We seek a leader to provide legal guidance and assist ACA members, board, and staff with understanding the legal implications of public benefit flying activities and ensuring that the board understands relevant legal issues as a part of strategic planning and decision making. The ideal candidate will also provide guidance on issues such as FAA regulations, policy creation and review, and risk management. This individual should have prior nonprofit board member experience or a board training certificate.


ACA seeks a well-connected leader who is passionate about helping others through aviation and can leverage his/her networks and resources in support of fundraising efforts to help grow the work of ACA. The ideal candidate has a track-record of supporting charitable aviation and strong connections to decision makers who are in a position to positively impact ACA’s work to foster and enhance public benefit flying. The ideal board candidate should have prior nonprofit board member experience or have received formal board training.


ACA seeks an experienced advocacy professional who has planned and implemented advocacy strategies and campaigns to support an issue or cause. We seek a board leader to help cultivate the board’s leadership role in advocacy in support of staff as part of a broader commitment to increase awareness about the importance of our mission, influence public policy, and expand our reach. The ideal board candidate should have prior nonprofit board member experience or have received formal board training.

Finance/Accounting Professional

ACA seeks a finance/accounting professional with expertise in reviewing and interpreting financial information and understanding complex financial reports. We seek a board leader willing to serve as board treasurer and to assist the board and staff with understanding economic trends. The ideal board candidate will possess experience with nonprofit financial management, including developing budgets, restricted and unrestricted grant reporting, financial modeling, risk management, filing Form 990s, bookkeeping, and overseeing audits.
